Modern Ikat

Have you noticed all of the Ikat patterns are so popular right now?  There are so many new and modern versions that I am just loving.

My first Ikat purchase were these two pillows from an Etsy shop called East and Nest.  They are beautifully made and give me that fresh graphic feel that I love, while being an Ikat.  I had no idea it was possible.  I do however, keep moving them from our bedroom to the guest room.  As I can't decide which is my favorite.  That's why pillows are so great for someone like me, easy to change!

My next Ikat purchase were these place mats from Target by Threshold.  I am loving this new line of products by Threshold. They really freshen things up in my dining room while being completely practical.  Love and love.

Now I'm wondering what my third Ikat purchase will be?  Possibly curtains for the living room?  We have had just plain white for a while now and I believe we need some pattern.

Did you notice my "new" art?  Now I want to paint the walls for sure.  I have the color picked out and everything.

Meditating On Me

I've noticed lately that when life throws some tough pitches my way it can be difficult for me to stay creative and on task.

What I discovered today were two things.  First, I had to do something that my soul feels good doing.  So I made a point of doing some thrift shopping.  I did it for a client that needs a dresser for her guest room, for my Etsy shop and for me.

Second, I discovered a guided meditation by Deepak Chopra and Oprah.  I think Oprah has been a true spiritual advisor in my life.  So instead of making excuses as to why I shouldn't meditate (there are currently millions) I sat in quiet while the baby napped and I meditated. It was kind of amazing, difficult and peaceful.  And it filled me up.

I suppose these are the steps I must take to get back on the road.  For me to make the return to my regularly scheduled programing despite major setbacks, despite emotions and despite the constant distraction of a 10 month old.  If I've learned anything in my life so far, it's that when we really want something we will do anything to accomplish it.  I believe that I am on the right path and I know I will do the hard work that it takes to get there.  Even if I can't see the how or when right now.  I will stay the path, show up every day and do the work.

My Small Upholstery Project

Remember these chairs that I was trying to sell about a month ago?

They didn't sell.

SO I decided to re-upholster them and use them upstairs.  Which then lead to changing the color of the chair itself.  Which then lead to me wanting to repaint the room pink!  Oh the things I do!

Here is the finished product.

When the walls are painted light pink it is going to be so much fun!

Modern Finds at JCP

It was rainy here today, so I took Hank to the mall for a walk.

Yep.  I've become a mall walker.

Our mall has a JC Penny.  I noticed a few things.

JCP has some stylish modern bedding and lighting.

Studio Bent Wood Table Lamp

This lamp is cool.  It is bigger than you think, and surprisingly awesome.

At JC Penny.  Seriously.

AND THEN...

Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler

JC Penny carries Jonathan Adler? Alright.  That's it.  They have officially changed.  It's safe to go in.

Found: Vintage Art

The antique and collectible show was in town this past weekend and I woke up feeling like something was calling to me.  I had a million good reasons not to go, a lot to do with the tight budget we live on, but I still had to go.  I figured if I didn't go then I would feel regret and regret is a state of mind I don't enjoy living in, wouldn't you agree?

The show always opens on Friday to those who want to pay a much higher admission price.  This is in order to get first dibs on items as they are being unpacked and set up.  I felt like somewhat of a bad mom for taking my child to an antique show on set up day right at nap time but what's a girl to do?  The universe was telling me to go...and I can't argue with the universe people.
Hank surprised me by being happy and sitting forward in his stroller waving to people, flirting and talking.   See, the universe wanted me to be there!  I practically ran to my favorite dealer and sure enough there was this piece of art.

It's a real piece of art, an actual painting.  In mint vintage condition.

Here it is up close.

Here is the signature of the artist.

And up close again.  Just 'cause.

Spring is in the Air

The beginning of spring has become one of my favorite times of year.  It's because I live in a place where spring starts to arrive in the form of crocuses and small buds on dormant trees.  Weeds start to pop up and every once in a while you will see the sun.  An amazing sight, from dead to alive, things start to bloom.

I love these spring branches, and I was just thrilled to see them at Trader Joe's.  I had to scoop some for me (and my mama too).  They are the right touch of drama for my mantle and fit perfectly in one of my large blue mason jars.

As you can see, I haven't yet painted my mantle. Something is holding me back.  I really want a new mirror for above the fireplace.  I was thinking about one of these:

Ikea
Target
Both are priced great.  I'm thinking one of these could hold me over until I find something spectacular.  What do you think?
